Our services
The OX-Lab offers experimental approaches to a range of themes in Economic Education. We have prepared lesson sequences which are oriented towards the core curriculum, including the curriculum of Lower Saxony, for the following school subjects:
- Economics (three types of German general secondary schools: Hauptschule, Realschule and Oberschule);
- Social Studies and the combined subject of Work Economy Technology (German comprehensive schools known as Gesamtschulen) as well as
- The dual subject area of Politics and Economy (German grammar schools (Gymnasium)).
Teaching material
The experiments are selected in such a way that they allow an introduction to the respective topic. Each experiment is followed by an evaluation and transfer phase, in which the results are reflected upon using economic theories and practical examples. Going beyond the usual reflection of the respective experiments, there are material provisions classifying the experimental experience in overarching factual and meaningful contexts. The lesson sequences vary in length and can be adapted, by arrangement, to the interests and prior knowledge of the students. Access to the OX-Lab and its resources are free of charge for school groups.
Method and materials
Our services also include materials for the preparation and follow-up of the visits to the laboratory. To exploit the potential of the experimental method aiming for holistic learning success, it is important to categorise the knowledge gained from the laboratory in a methodical manner and to consolidate the content. Teachers can take part in the experiments as observers; they do not need to have any methodological knowledge background. A short briefing on the methods occurs ahead of the visit with the head of the laboratory.
It is also possible to include the Oldenburg Experimental Laboratory for Economic Education in school project days or half-day formats. Feel free to contact us about this.
