Economic understanding as a basis for discussion
Public discourse in society, business and politics often have an economic dimension. If topics such as social justice, sustainability, the future of employment crop up in election campaigns, then basic economic knowledge is required to understand them. Anyone thinking about an unconditional basic income, for instance, should know something about the principles of income distribution (performance, needs, equality) or previous instruments of distribution (e.g. progressive tax system). Anyone who wants to understand social phenomena and discuss social problems should also possess basic economic knowledge.
Knowledge transfer as a task for IÖB
IÖB’s activities are aimed specifically at extra-curricular target groups. An understanding of economic relationships is particularly important in times of increasing social controversy and fake news. The provisions based on research findings are diverse, extending across different target groups and possessing appropriate formats for these groups, e.g. for apprentices, managers or the general population, Alongside classic information materials, there are spaces and platforms created to facilitate joint discussions and dialogue.
